Who we are

StudyMaxing is an independent learning, literature and ideas website operated by Sammy Beasley, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. Sammy Beasley is the data controller: the person responsible for deciding how and why personal information is used.

For privacy questions or requests, email hello@studymaxing.co.uk.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:

  • your email address and chosen update topic when you join the mailing list;
  • subscription status, confirmation and unsubscribe records, and security tokens used to administer your preference;
  • communications you send directly to StudyMaxing; and
  • technical and security information such as IP address, browser, device, requested pages, referral source and request time.

Joining the mailing list is optional. If you do not provide an email address, we cannot send the updates you request.

The StudyMaxing mailing list

You can choose updates about Gabriel Gbadamosi's readings and work, or about the wider StudyMaxing project, including Gabriel. We send a confirmation email first and subscribe you only after you confirm.

You can withdraw your consent at any time through the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting us. We retain an unsubscribe record so we can respect your choice and avoid sending unwanted marketing.

How and why we use information

We use personal information to:

  • send and administer updates you have asked to receive;
  • respond to messages and privacy requests;
  • operate, measure and secure the website;
  • prevent spam, fraud and misuse; and
  • meet legal, regulatory or accounting obligations.

Our lawful bases are your consent for optional email updates; our legitimate interests in running a reliable, useful and secure website; and legal obligations where records or disclosures are required by law. You can withdraw consent without affecting the lawfulness of earlier use.

Service providers and international processing

We use specialist providers only where reasonably necessary: Vercel for hosting and web analytics, Supabase for mailing-list storage, Resend for email delivery, and Cloudflare Turnstile for automated-abuse checks. Vimeo provides the embedded reading-room video and may receive technical information when that player loads.

These providers operate internationally, including in the United States. Where UK personal information is transferred abroad, the provider must use a recognised adequacy arrangement or another lawful safeguard such as approved contractual clauses.

Cookies, video and website statistics

Vercel Web Analytics helps us understand aggregate traffic and device information without using third-party advertising cookies. Cloudflare Turnstile processes browser and request signals to distinguish people from automated abuse. The Vimeo player may use its own storage or cookies under Vimeo's policies. You can control cookies and stored site data through your browser settings.

Retention and security

We keep information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected. Active mailing-list details are kept while you subscribe; suppression records may be retained to honour an unsubscribe request. Technical records follow provider settings and may be kept longer where needed to investigate an incident or meet a legal duty.

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including server-only provider credentials, restricted database access, bot protection and one-time confirmation links. No online system can promise absolute security.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your information, and in some cases to receive a portable copy. You can object to direct marketing at any time.

Email hello@studymaxing.co.ukto make a request. We may ask for proportionate information to confirm your identity and normally respond within one calendar month.

Children

StudyMaxing's public content can be read by a wide audience, but the email list is not designed to collect children's information. If you are under 13, ask a parent or guardian to manage an email subscription for you. Please do not send sensitive personal information through general email.

Complaints and changes

Contact us first if you have a concern so we can investigate it. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office through the ICO complaints service.

We may update this policy as StudyMaxing develops. Material changes to how we use information will be explained before a new use begins, and consent will be requested where the law requires it.
